Shopify revenue upside calculator
Enter your sessions, conversion rate and average order value, then set how much you think each could rise. The calculator shows what that lift is worth to your Shopify store, a month and a year. The lifts are your assumptions, not our promises, and the maths is set out below.
Try it with your own numbers
What the lift is worth
All three together, a year
£97,652
£8,138 a month
- Current revenue
- £38,250 a month, £459,000 a year
Each lift on its own, a year
- Conversion rate +10%
- £45,900 a year
- Average order value +5%
- £22,950 a year
- Traffic +5%
- £22,950 a year
At these assumptions, a year of our Growth retainer (£2,500 a month, ex VAT) would be covered within 4 months of the extra revenue.
This compares revenue, not profit. Add your gross margin for a fairer comparison.
It assumes the lift applies from the first month. In practice, changes ship over time.
Fix the marked fields to see what a lift is worth.
Your assumptions, not our forecast. Results vary from store to store. A year here is a month × 12, so it ignores seasonality.
How the maths works
Everything is plain multiplication, so you can check it with a spreadsheet.
- Current revenue. Sessions × conversion rate × average order value gives your revenue for a month. A year is that month × 12, so it ignores seasonality.
- Each lift on its own. Current revenue × the lift. A 10% rise in conversion rate is worth 10% of your current revenue, and the same goes for order value and traffic.
- All three together. Sessions × (1 + traffic lift) × conversion rate × (1 + conversion rate lift) × order value × (1 + order value lift), minus current revenue. The lifts multiply, so together they are worth slightly more than the three added up.
- Gross profit. If you add your gross margin, the upside × your margin gives the extra gross profit.
- The retainer comparison. We compare the monthly upside with our Growth retainer at £2,500 a month, ex VAT: how many months of extra gross profit, or revenue without a margin, would pay for a year of it. It assumes the lift starts in the first month, which in practice it rarely does.
A worked example
The calculator opens with these figures. They are an illustration, not a store we work with.
- 30,000 sessions a month at a 1.5% conversion rate is 450 orders.
- At an average order value of £85, that is £38,250 a month, or £459,000 a year.
- A 10% rise in conversion rate is worth £3,825 a month, or £45,900 a year. A 5% rise in order value and a 5% rise in traffic are worth £1,912.50 a month each, or £22,950 a year.
- All three together: 30,000 × 1.05 × 1.5% × 1.10 × £85 × 1.05 is £46,387.69 a month. That is £8,137.69 a month more than today, or £97,652 a year.
What happened for some of our clients
These results are real, but they came from full migrations to Shopify Plus, not from one change, and your store is not their store. We show them as context, not as defaults: the calculator starts with much smaller lifts. Results vary.
- Christiania Glasmagasin. In the year after we moved them from Magento 2 to Shopify Plus, their conversion rate rose 120% and net revenue rose 61%. Read the Christiania Glasmagasin case study.
- GaitLine. Their conversion rate rose 71% in the first 90 days after we moved their five stores from Magento 2 to Shopify Plus, compared with the same period on Magento a year earlier. Read the GaitLine case study.
Questions
Frequently asked questions
Is this a forecast?
No. It multiplies your own figures by lifts you choose. It shows what a lift would be worth, not whether it will happen or how long it would take.
Where do the starting lifts come from?
They are modest example values, 10% on conversion rate and 5% each on order value and traffic. They are not our results or an industry benchmark. Change them to what you think is realistic for your store.
Do you store the figures I enter?
No. We don't store them. The figures are in the page address, so you can share them with a link. That address goes to our hosting provider and, if you have accepted analytics cookies, to Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity, like any page you visit. The calculator also sends Google Analytics one event with rough ranges, never the figures you typed.
Why does the yearly figure ignore seasonality?
A year here is one month multiplied by 12. If your trading peaks around Black Friday or Christmas, enter an average month rather than your best or worst one.
Which retainer does it compare against?
Growth, our custom development retainer for brands on Shopify Plus or heading there. Like every retainer we offer, it rolls monthly with one month's notice and no minimum term.
