- +71% · Conversion rate, first 90 days
GaitLine moved its five regional D2C stores from a single Magento 2 instance to Shopify Plus, and we ran the migration. All five stores went live a week before Black Friday 2022, less than 12 weeks after the project started. Conversion rate rose 71% in the first 90 days, compared with the same period on Magento the year before.
About GaitLine
GaitLine is a Norwegian-developed shoe brand. It sells direct to consumers and to shoe and sports shops, across the Nordics, Europe and the USA.
The challenge
After several years on Magento 2, GaitLine wanted more flexibility and lower running costs. Its five D2C regions all ran inside one Magento instance. Changes were slow to ship and the set-up was expensive to maintain across markets.
The deadline was fixed. Peak season was coming, and the new stores had to be live before Black Friday.
What we did
Discovery and a proof of concept
We started with GaitLine’s requirements, goals and existing set-up: product data, customer data and integrations. Then we built a proof of concept of GaitLine’s key functions before the full build.
Five Shopify Plus stores, built from shared components
Each region got its own Shopify Plus store, run as one multi-store set-up with shared components. We customised the theme with GaitLine’s own designer to match the brand.
Data, integrations and redirects
We moved product data, customer records and order history from Magento to Shopify Plus, and checked the data on the way across. We set up redirects from the old URLs and connected the new stores to GaitLine’s ERP and marketing tools.
Tested for peak traffic
Before launch we tested the stores, including performance tests for the traffic expected on Black Friday.
The result
+71% conversion rate in the first 90 days against the same period on Magento a year earlier.
Maintenance and hosting costs fell after the move to Shopify Plus.
GaitLine came out of the project with five stores on one platform instead of one shared Magento instance.
“Launched a week before Black Friday: five stores, one platform, zero drama.”
