Majema: Magento 2 to Shopify Plus

We moved Majema from Magento 2 to Shopify Plus to give them a store that was easier to maintain and quicker to build on. We proved their checkout requirements first, then built a custom theme with Majema’s own designer. After launch, further development was quicker and Majema’s in-house team could work with the store more efficiently.

The client

Majema’s online store, majema.se, is one part of a wider business.

The challenge

We had worked with Majema since 2018, maintaining and updating their Magento 2 store. Magento 2 served them well, but after several years they wanted more stability and lower maintenance costs. They also wanted a platform where new features could be built faster.

They chose Shopify Plus and asked us to run the migration.

What we did

A proof of concept first

We started the project towards the end of 2020. The first step was a proof of concept for Majema’s key functions.

Majema especially wanted to know whether they could customise the checkout the way they had on Magento. In 2020, Shopify limited how far the standard checkout could be changed, but Shopify Plus allowed the kind of customisations Majema wanted.

A custom theme, built with Majema’s designer

We often design stores ourselves. Here we worked with Majema’s own designer to build a custom theme from scratch, shaped around Majema’s functional requirements.

The online store is only one part of Majema’s business, so it had to do more than a standard Shopify Plus store. We built a set of flexible content page templates that Majema’s team could use to build their store.

The result

Majema.se went live on Shopify Plus. Day-to-day running became smoother, further development happened faster, and Majema’s in-house team could work more efficiently with the store.

After launch we shipped several new features and templates.
