Shopify Spring 2026 Editions: What Merchants Need to Know

A comprehensive guide to Shopify's Spring 2026 Editions — covering every major new feature across agentic commerce, marketing, retail POS, online store, and operations.
Shopify Spring 2026 Editions: What Merchants Need to Know

Updated: June 2026. Shopify has officially launched its Spring 2026 Editions — here's everything merchants need to know, feature by feature.

What Are Shopify Editions?

Shopify releases a major platform update twice a year, branded as "Editions." Each release bundles hundreds of new features, improvements, and tools across the platform — from storefront and checkout through to analytics, marketing, and developer APIs. Think of it as Shopify's version of an Apple keynote, but for merchants. If you're new to the platform, our Shopify 101 guide is a great place to start.

The Spring 2026 Editions have now officially landed, building heavily on the AI and agentic commerce foundations laid in Winter '26. Here's what's new and what you should act on first.

The Biggest Theme: Agentic Commerce Goes Mainstream

If Winter '26 introduced agentic storefronts, Spring '26 makes them a serious sales channel. Your products are now automatically discoverable in AI chats, and Shopify is giving you the data to prove it's working. For a deeper dive into how this works, read our guide to Agentic Storefronts: Your Products Inside AI Shopping Experiences.

Agentic Discovery

  • Agentic Storefronts insights — see how your products are performing in AI channels, track sales, and get guidance on what's missing to drive conversion.
  • Shopify Catalog structured data — Shopify automatically standardises and enriches your product data. Data syndicated by Shopify drives 2x more conversion in AI chats.
  • Universal Commerce Protocol: Copilot, Meta, Shop Pay — customers can now purchase directly inside Microsoft Copilot and pay with Shop Pay in chat. Meta ads integration is coming soon.
  • Agentic plan — businesses not yet on Shopify can sync products to Shopify Catalog and sell across AI channels and the Shop app.

Online Store & Merchandising

AI-Powered Store Tools

  • AI sales associate from Shopify Inbox — an AI assistant on your online store that helps drive sales and, for customers signed in with Shop, recommends products based on their purchase history.
  • AI-powered store analysis with SimGym — analyse your theme using AI-simulated shoppers to get actionable improvement ideas.
  • A/B tests on online store and checkout — publish a new theme, checkout configuration, or customer accounts setup at a scheduled time or as an A/B test using Rollouts.
  • Shopify Smart Pricing — get product-level pricing tips based on your store's sales, inventory, costs, and seasonality.

Storefront & Catalogue

  • Storefront search delivers more results — even with typos or unusual phrasing, shoppers get relevant results.
  • Variant-level publishing — control which product variants are published by channel and per market without workarounds.
  • Stacking multiple product discounts — apply multiple discounts to the same product in one order (e.g. a percentage off and a fixed amount discount).
  • Discounts by market — run targeted promotions for customers across specific regions, retail locations, and B2B setups.
  • Sales channel control in markets — customise product availability, pricing, and currency for each sales channel connection.
  • Mandatory product warnings — add mandatory warnings on products and display them on your store, in AI channels, and the Shop app.
  • Visualised markets graph — understand your Shopify Markets setup with a clearer view across discounts, products, and settings in one graph.

Customer Accounts

  • Refreshed customer accounts — intuitive navigation, branded sign-in, and recommendations for first-time shoppers.
  • 365-day sessions — customers stay signed in for a full year, making it easier to pick up where they left off.
  • Customer data syncs from identity providers — sync profile fields and custom tags from Auth0, Ping Identity, and Azure ID.
  • Marketing consent on sign-in — capture email marketing opt-ins directly on the customer sign-in page.

Theme Editor

  • Better editing experience on laptops — the theme and checkout editors now show sections and settings side by side.
  • Better editing for online store in the Shopify app — mobile-optimised controls, an on-screen preview as you edit, and Sidekick built right in.
  • Scheduling and testing for localised themes with Rollouts — translate your theme across markets, then schedule to publish or A/B test it.

Marketing

Spring '26 is a landmark release for marketing. If you want to understand how personalisation data underpins these new tools, our Ecommerce Personalisation Statistics 2026 piece is essential reading alongside this.

  • Campaign Autopilot — run campaigns across channels with AI-powered marketing that learns, optimises, and drives performance. Set guardrails to stay in control and track results over time.
  • Shop Campaigns on more channels — one campaign now runs across ChatGPT, programmatic ads via Microsoft Monetize, and Pinterest.
  • Simplified setup and bidding in Shop Campaigns — set custom bids for segments like new or lapsed customers and run across channels from one setup.
  • WhatsApp marketing channel — create and manage WhatsApp marketing campaigns in Shopify Messaging.
  • SMS and marketing automations in Shopify Messaging — now including SMS automations.
  • Smart email delivery — Shopify Messaging intelligently prioritises which messages to send and hold back, optimising for conversion.
  • Marketing data in analytics — view spend, ROAS, impressions, and sessions alongside sales in one report.
  • Fixed bundles on Google Shopping and Meta — publish pre-configured bundles across Google search and ads, YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram.
  • Discount links attributed to campaigns — accurately track traffic and conversion from discount links tied to specific campaigns.
  • WhatsApp consent management — control WhatsApp marketing consent in each customer's profile alongside email and SMS consent.

Retail & POS

  • Shopify POS V11 — save over a minute when creating new customers, adding products, and checking out. The cart is always present so the line never stops.
  • Returns and exchanges in one cart — process refunds, exchanges, and new sales in a single cart with smart grid actions.
  • Scannable discounts in Shopify POS — generate QR codes in the admin, share with customers, and scan at checkout to apply discounts in store.
  • In-store only discounts — create discounts that only apply in person, keeping in-store promotions separate from online.
  • Faster search in Shopify POS — inline suggestions and reduced latency across every search page.
  • Keyboard shortcuts for Shopify POS — build carts and navigate products, orders, and customers faster.
  • Gift card cashout from Shopify POS — cash out low-balance gift cards to meet local redemption laws.
  • Pickup orders for any retail location — create orders for pickup at any location, notify customers, and mark as fulfilled. (POS Pro)
  • Cash visibility and control — set cash rules, track all drawer activity, require mid-session cash counts, and reconcile with audit trails. (POS Pro)
  • Manually enable offline checkout — staff with the right permissions can enable offline checkout to keep selling when connectivity drops.
  • Permission settings for customer data — control which staff can view sensitive customer details like names, emails, and addresses.
  • Packing slips for outgoing transfers — print an itemised manifest with origin, destination, and transfer details.
  • Multi-entity selling across retail locations — operate multiple retail locations from different legal entities, all managed from one Shopify store. (Plus only)
  • Verifone Victa Mobile for Shopify POS — scan barcodes, take payments, and run Shopify POS on a new handheld that doubles as a terminal when docked. (US and Canada pre-order)

What Winter '26 Delivered — Still Worth Acting On

If you haven't yet implemented the Winter '26 features, these remain high priority alongside the Spring '26 updates:

  • 2,048 variants per product — rethink your catalogue architecture if you have complex option combinations.
  • Unlisted product status — ideal for wholesale links, influencer exclusives, and pre-launch pages.
  • Automatic discounts for specific customers — target VIPs and loyalty tiers without discount codes.
  • Heatmaps and bot filtering in analytics — your conversion data is likely inflated without bot filtering enabled.
  • Flow automation preview — test workflows before they go live.
  • Horizon theme updates — 250+ improvements shipped; check you're on the latest version.

Top 5 Things to Do Right Now

  1. Check your Agentic Storefronts insights — see how your products are performing in AI channels and what's blocking conversion.
  2. Set up Campaign Autopilot — if you're running paid marketing, this is the highest-leverage new tool in Spring '26.
  3. Enable WhatsApp marketing — a brand new channel now available natively in Shopify Messaging.
  4. Update to POS V11 — if you have a retail location, the checkout speed improvement alone is worth it.
  5. Review your discount strategy — stacking multiple product discounts and market-specific discounts open up new promotional possibilities.
